Officials say the incident resulted in the unidentified Department of Homeland Security employee being placed on administrative leave and facing the revocation of her security clearance. The New York Post reports the worker was able to contact the journalist to prevent publication of the sensitive information. The incident, which was not previously reported, raises questions about the role of whistleblowers versus the dangers of disgruntled employees in the federal workplace. The federal employee, who has served in various agencies across DHS since the George W. Bush administration, has 30 days to appeal the revocation of her security clearance.
