(Powhatan County, VA) -- A Powhatan [[POW-ah-tan]] County man was sentenced to 105 years in prison for sex crimes with a minor with most of that time suspended.

Powhatan [[POW-ah-tan]] County prosecutors say 76 year old Joe Carter Washington Junior received a sentence of 105 years with 95 years suspended, meaning he will serve just 10 years. The sheriff’s office said the offenses took place in 2020 and 2021 with Washington being convicted of two counts of sodomy of a minor and one count of indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial role. WRIC reports the investigation began after the child disclosed the abuse in December 2023.
