The Petersburg Animal Shelter says it will remain closed for at least two weeks until all its dogs test negative for Parvo. The highly contagious virus is mainly spread among canines through their feces. City officials say the facility will not accept any animals during this time to ensure the safety of the others currently in its care. However, the shelter is going to try to find other agencies who can help accept strays. Pet owners are encouraged to make sure their dogs are up to date on their vaccines and avoid bringing them to parks or other places where dogs gather.
