The Southwest Wildlife Center in Roanoke received its tenth Bald Eagle in the past year. Executive Director Chester Leonard says the eagle, found in Botetourt [[bot-a-tot]] County, was unable to fly and showed signs of dehydration and elevated lead levels. Despite initial treatment, the eagle still couldn't fly, prompting the center to transfer it to a specialized facility for further care. He tells WFXR he believes the increase in eagles needing care is because of lead poisoning from scavenging on contaminated prey. The center hopes the eagle will recover and be released back into the wild.
