The bill received overwhelming support in the General Assembly. The proposed legislation that would limit children under 16 to one hour per day on social media is awaiting Governor Glenn Youngkin's approval. The bill, set to take effect in 2026, also requires social media companies to verify users' ages, according to WUSA9. While Youngkin proposed raising the age restriction to under 18, the final version maintained the under 16 limit. The governor has been vocal about regulating social media use among children and teens, citing concerns about mental health impacts.
