The election was scheduled following the resignation of former state Senator John McGuire, who was elected to Congress last month. Republican Luther Cifers will face Democrat Jack Trammel. The district covers all or part of 11 counties located west of Richmond and mostly south of Charlottesville. Election Day is set for January 7th.
