Virginia judges will soon have the authority to order reckless drivers convicted of driving over 100 miles per hour to install speed-limiting technology in their vehicles. The Intelligent Speed Assistance Program, introduced by Arlington Del. Patrick Hope, allows judges to require convicted reckless drivers to install speed-limiting technology as an alternative to license suspension. WTOP reports that the technology, which uses smart GPS technology to monitor and limit a vehicle's speed, will be installed at the driver's expense. Drivers who attempt to tamper with the device could face misdemeanor charges. The bill will go into effect on July 1, 2026.
