FEMA Official Frank Matranga says Hurricane Helene cut power to thousands of people. Meredith Carothers with USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service says if you lost power your refridgerated foods only stay safe to eat for about four hours.

She says if you know you could lose power, move refridgerated foods to the freezer and fill containers or plastic bags with water to take up any empty air space. She says once the food reaches above 40 degrees, you only have about two hours to consume it safely, otherwise you should toss it.
