With students getting back into the classroom after the holidays, Elected Officials say that the goal is to improve engagement, limit distractions, and reduce cyberbullying. Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico school systems have adopted varying cellphone policies, with consequences ranging from confiscation to suspension for non-compliance.
Richmond Times and Dispatch reports that exceptions will be made for medical or emergency reasons, and the policies aim to encourage face-to-face interaction and lessen device dependency.
