Public colleges and universities are required under state law to place QR codes on student IDs. Each code can be scanned to link students directly with mental health and sexual assault support as well as police services. A George Mason student came up with the idea in 2015 and slowly gained support from key state lawmakers. The former student who spearheaded the effort hopes colleges around the U.S. will eventually adopt the idea.
