State Health Commissioner Karen Shelton sent a letter last month to clinicians saying her agency has received many reports of children and minors getting sick from products containing CBD and THC. She said a special surveillance system was being established as a result. The letter asks that local health departments also be notified of cannabis-related hospitalizations for kids 18 years and younger and any events affecting multiple children. The Virginia Department of Health has reported an increase in ER visits for cannabis-related issues among minors.
