Customs and Border Protection is releasing details of a peculiar drug seizure it conducted at Dulles Airport in Virgina.Preview: A meat processing company based in Virginia has reached a settlement in an alleged child labor case. Smithfield Foods has agreed to pay two-million dollars to the Minnesota Department of Labor for the alleged employing of underage workers. An on-site inspection in April of last year claimed Smithfield had eleven children, ranging in age from 14 to 17, working at the plant. Smithfield released a statement denying any wrongdoing, but said to prevent the distraction of prolonged litigation have agreed to settle the matter. The settlement will also require the company to follow compliance and reporting requirements.
Residents in Fairfax County are being asked about proposed increases to recreational center fees. The county says most of the fees are incremental, but some are set to increase dramatically. Fairfax County's park system covers 420 parks and 324 miles of trails over 23-thousand acres. They say more than 60-percent of park fees go toward operations and upkeep. The Park Authority Board will be voting on the proposed increases December 11th.
The Arlington County Board will be voting on allowing sharpshooters to kill deer on public land. The board is meeting tomorrow for a final vote on the matter. At issue is amending the code to exclude the discharge of guns for county supervised deer management from the prohibition of guns on county property.
