Help from Central Virginia is on its way to Florida. Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Virginia will help those caught in the path of Hurricane Helene [[huh-LEEN]]. It's expected to be a major hurricane and cause destruction in Northwest Florida. Mary Davis Barton and other volunteers left yesterday from Henrico for Tallahassee. She tells 12 On Your Side people don't know where to turn after a disaster, and if she can help them, that's what she needs to do.
The Port of Virginia is preparing for a possible strike of longshoremen if a labor contract isn't renewed. Sara Bartlett has more.Preview: Two people are hurt after a shooting in Henrico County. It happened last night on Engleside Drive. Police say a woman was shot in the leg and a child was hurt by broken glass caused by the shooting. The child was treated at the scene, but the woman was taken to the hospital. She's expected to survive. No arrest has been announced, and there's no word on a motive.
Families of kids battling a deadly illness could benefit from an event coming up in Chesterfield County. Kellan's Legacy of Love will hold a Family Fun Day fundraiser Saturday at Huguenot Road Baptist Church. Donna Reynolds started the nonprofit after her nine-year-old son, Kellan, died of mitochondrial disease four years ago.
