It took firefighters about half-an-hour to put out the fire. No one was hurt, but the Red Cross is helping two residents who are now displaced. Investigators believe the fire was cooking-related. They say the homeowner thought they put out the fire earlier in the day, but it spread into the wall and the attic.
The PG County towns of Cheverly and Bladensburg are butting heads over which one should get to annex the old Prince George's Hospital Center. Demolition at the Hospital Hill property right off the BW Parkway is already underway as 13-hundred homes and a retail complex is planned for the site. Cheverly has been working on annexing the property since 2021, but Bladensburg leaders unexpectedly announced a similar plan to make Hospital Hill part of their town last fall.
Police in Leesburg are asking for help in a death investigation that began last spring. A late-term fetus was found in a pond near Park Gate Drive in March. Police have been unable to close the case, calling it "sensitive and heartbreaking" in a social media post yesterday..
