NSU students filled the stadium yesterday to catch a glimpse of their new head coach. At the press conference, Vick said this transformation means that now is their time for the Spartans. The former NFL quarterback and Newport News native led Virginia Tech to a national championship as a freshman. He then became the number one pick for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL draft. His career was interrupted in 2007 by a dogfighting ring conviction. He plead guilty and went on to serve 21 months in federal prison.
A Henrico County student is getting recognized for his musical talent. James McGee entered a contest asking students to record a jingle promoting safe driving. Earlier this month, the seventh-grader was declared the winner in the contest's middle school division. The 12-year-old says he really likes music, and he wanted to showcase his stuff. James won 200 dollars, but his mom says the more important thing is the message he's spreading.
Some students in Chesterfield County are giving back this holiday season. Preschoolers at the Primrose School at Ironbridge Corner, Midlothian Village and Swift Creek donated canned goods to local food banks.
