Virginia Beach Democratic Delegate Alex Askew sponsored the measure to eliminate tax exemptions for groups like the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The bill would force those groups and others to pay real estate and personal property taxes to the state. The General Assembly passed similar bills last year only to see them vetoed by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
