The report from the National Council on Teacher Quality says teachers in Fairfax County can not afford to rent or buy a house close to where they teach. The report finds the cost of a one bedroom apartment in that region take about 42% of a teacher's salary. And home prices in Fairfax County continue to go up, increasing 37% since 2019. Teachers in that district are more likely to live outside the school division, making for longer commutes and less contact with the students and families they're teaching. Education advocates say increases overall in teacher salaries is one way to help bridge the gap. I'm Rr.
