(Suffolk, VA) -- A family in Suffolk is warning others of the dangers of ticks after one nearly took their daughter's life. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: Four-year-old Ruby Carr suffered what's known as tick paralysis after a tick latched onto her scalp. Ruby’s grandmother, Karen Carr, tells WAVY the family had to take her to the ER.Preview: As soon as the tick was removed, Ruby started to get better. Health officials say the American dog tick is one species of the bug that gives off a neuro-toxin in their saliva and can cause paralysis in humans. They advise to always check for ticks, especially in the scalp, if you're spending time in the woods or outdoors. Ruby is expected to make a full recovery. I'm RR.
