The online challenge dares kids to put metal objects and lead from mechanical pencils into the ports of Chromebooks. This can cause the laptops to smoke or catch fire. Henrico Fire Chief Jackson Baynard says it's not smart for a few reasons. One, it could give an electric shock to whoever does it, it also causes a fire hazard, and third, the lithium-ion battery can give off different toxic gases. Baynard says there's also the possibility of criminal charges up to a felony. He tells 12 On Your Side parents should have conversations with their children to educate them on the risks associated with this type of behavior.
