The agency has responded to over 500 downed trees in the region, with significant impacts in several counties. Crews are cutting up trees and tossing them to the side of the road to make them passable, with plans to return later to clean up the debris. VDOT is coordinating with utility companies to remove downed lines tangled in trees and is assessing damage caused by flooding once waters recede. WDBJ reports that they are working to make roads passable and will return to remove debris once floodwaters have receded.
