Parents of young kids should avoid exposure to gruesome costumes or explicit home decorations which can be traumatic according to University of Kentucky Extension Child Development Specialist David Weisenhorn.Preview: He says little ghouls older than 10 or 11 can walk up to the door by themselves, but all candy seekers under the age of 12 should be with a parent. Weisenhorn suggests not allowing masks that restricts a child's ability to see and adding a clip-on flashing light or reflective strips to costumes to be seen. Parents should inspect all candy for broken seals or allergens before your child digs into their stash.
