>>New Market Officials Work with VDOT to Solve Truck Traffic Issues
(New Market, VA) -- A tricky intersection for large trucks in New Market leaves VDOT trying various tactics to fix the issue. Thomas Cage with the details.Preview: Voicer Script:
The intersection of Route 11 and Old Cross Road in downtown New Market causes large trucks to make tight turns leading to a traffic pinch point that often causes backups. Ed Carter, with VDOT, says one of the three strategies his agency wants to implement includes moving the center line over three feet at the intersection of 211 and 11 coming from Timberville - giving trucks more room to turn. WHSV reports VDOT crews will also move the stop bar back on West Old Cross Road. Carter says the third strategy is to create a trucking route that will marked to encourage truck drivers to avoid turning at the intersection altogether. The changes are expected to begin in August.
