(James City County, VA) -- An underground fire that's been burning in James City County since Saturday has finally been put out. Thomas Cage with the details.

The county fire department says the fire at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets was extinguished around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Neighbors tell WAVY they are relieved.

The fire's location in an underground stormwater detention area caused part of the parking lot behind the outlets to collapse. Investigators say plastic crates used in the construction of the stormwater facility caught fire and burned for more than 100 hours. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
