Unemployment claims are starting to increase in Virginia. The state Department of Workforce Development says just over four thousand new unemployment claims were filed during the first full week of March. That was 40 percent higher than the week before and 81 percent higher than the same week last year. More than 560 claims were from former federal employees who worked in Virginia.
