(Portsmouth, VA) -- The Virginia Department of Education is giving millions in grant money to schools in the state for security. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: The VDOE is giving 472 schools $12million dollars in grant funding for security equipment. The money will be split up amongst 96 school divisions, with each division receiving up to $250-thousand dollars. VDOE Communications Advisor Todd Reid says children need to be safe and feel safe when they're at school. The new equipment will include surveillance cameras, internal communication systems, I.D. badge systems for visitors, and two-way bus radios. Twelve school divisions in Hampton Roads have already received more than a million in funding. I'm RR.
