The Friday fire at the former Virginia Intermont College campus in Bristol destroyed at least one building and damaged several others. The college closed in 2014 and was purchased by a Chinese-owned company two years later. The property has been unoccupied since then, though neighbors say members of the homeless community have been living in the abandoned buildings. Several city leaders say they plan to pursue legal options to force the owner to secure and maintain the property.
