The teachers originally filed the lawsuit in 2022, claiming the school board violated their right to free speech and religious freedom. The lawsuit was renewed last week and referenced last year's state Supreme Court opinion that school districts can't compel employees to use a student's preferred pronouns. The legal team representing the Harrisonburg teachers helped another Virginia teacher get a 575-thousand dollar settlement in a similar lawsuit.
