Nadia Ahmed, a student at VCU, is set to become the first person in America to earn a Ph.D in pharmaceutical engineering. VCU launched the nation's first pharmaceutical engineering Ph.D program in 2020, with Ahmed as its inaugural student. Originally from Bangladesh, Ahmed pursued her interest in medicine through various degrees before joining VCU's program. After graduation, she aims to work as an analytical scientist in the pharmaceutical industry, building on her experience as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education.WRIC reports that Ahmed's advisor praised her as a standout graduate student, highlighting her curiosity, persistence, independence, and fearlessness.
