Nicole Cordero of the Better Business Bureau says this scam has resulted in millions of dollars being lost by thousands of people. By obtaining a short, three-second voice clip from social media or via voicemail announcements, scammers can create convincing messages urging victims to send money quickly. Consumers are advised to be cautious of urgent requests for money over the phone and to verify the authenticity of such requests before taking any action. Additionally, securing personal accounts is recommended to prevent falling victim to these types of scams.
