(Richmond, VA) -- Voter registration in Virginia has increased since Vice President Kamala Harris announced her candidacy to run for president. More from Liz Kennedy.Preview: The state Department of Elections released data showing that nearly 49-hundred Virginians have registered to vote, a 38-point-five percent increase over the previous week since the vice president announced her recent bid for the White House. Rich Meagher, political science professor with Randolph-Macon College, tells 8 News that the new registrations either reflect those who felt left out of the process or are just excited to cast their vote when the time comes.Preview: According to the nonprofit group Vote-dot-org, the number of people registering to vote nationwide has spiked by 700-percent.
