Officials say the damage on Simons Run Road initially lead to road closures near the new Centra Campus. Residents, like Courtney Zangla from Lynchburg, tell WDBJ they had to avoid the road due to the damage caused by the heavy rainfall. Reports from VDOT say the collapse of the brick wall resulted in a large puddle on the road, with drivers going by later in the afternoon to see the wall for themselves. Simons Run Road has since reopened after the incident.
