The barracks was discovered after a site excavation last year. Historians believe the barracks dates back to 1776 and was built to house up to two-thousand soldiers and 100 horses. The barracks is estimated to cover three or four acres, though only a small part of it has been excavated so far. It was likely destroyed in 1781 by British troops. The site and any artifacts found within will be preserved for future examination.
