Regional Planner Richard White says the program offers grants of up to $4,500 for initiatives such as rain gardens, tree plantings, and permeable pavement. Schools, nonprofits, and community organizations are encouraged to apply for funding. WDBJ reports the goal is to reduce pollution in waterways by implementing green infrastructure projects that help absorb rainwater and prevent harmful runoff. The program aims to address sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus loads in waterways through on-the-ground implementation of best management practices.
