Free test kits are being made available through the Virginia Department of Health to residents in the Plateau Health district who get their drinking water from private wells. WOAY reports flooding can introduce germs to a well that can cause gastrointestinal illness. To qualify for testing, the well must first be disinfected and flushed, with state officials recommending the help of a professional. The test can be obtained from the Tazewell County Health Department and test samples must be returned the same day.
