Many people are moving to Danville to participate in the U.S. Navy's Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing program. The program hopes to address the country's shipbuilding workforce shortage, but the city's housing shortage makes hosting students a challenge. The Cardinal News reports that while multiple housing projects are underway, Danville has a shortage of about 600 homes - without the influx of students. The campus does not currently offer lodging, although IALR President Telly Tucker says that is something that may happen in the future. Housing and tuition are entirely free to students, since the program is funded by the U.S. Navy.
