>>Lawsuit Moves Forward Against Roanoke City Council For Abolishing Single-Family Home Zoning
(Roanoke, VA) -- A Roanoke attorney and his clients are moving forward with a lawsuit against the city over a mass rezoning effort approved by City Council last September. Rebecca Hughes explains.Preview: Voicer Script:
The lawsuit alleges that the city did not follow proper procedures in implementing the rezoning amendments, which effectively abolish single-family home zoning districts. One of the plaintiffs, local physician Anthony Stavola, tells WDBJ he is concerned about the lack of input from homeowners and citizens in the decision-making process. While understanding the need for affordable housing, Stavola hopes the city will reconsider the plan and engage in a more meaningful conversation with residents. The city declined to comment on the litigation, but some council members expressed a desire to collaborate on zoning issues with the new council.
