Be prepared for another unusually hot day in Central Virginia. The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect from 11:00 to 8:00 today in Richmond and the surrounding counties. Heat index values are expected to range from 105 to 109. That could cause heat illness. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun and checking on relatives and neighbors.
A UVA swimmer is being honored as the best female student-athlete in the ACC. Gretchen Walsh has been selected as the winner of the conference's Mary Gerber Award. Walsh holds the world record in the 100-meter fly and will compete in several events for the U.S. in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris. She also helped the Cavalier women win the NCAA swimming and diving championship earlier this year.
