A Roanoke family honored for serving the community for over a century.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate the unveiling of a new state historic marker honoring the Claytor family. The Claytor Memorial Clinic, one of the first Black-owned medical clinics in the region, provided essential care to the community. Cardnial New reports the family's perseverance and commitment to their faith and community were highlighted at the event.
Four people are hurt and two pets are dead after a fire in Chesterfield County. It happened Friday night at the Interstate Inn on Indian Hill Road. Firefighters say heavy smoke was coming from a room on the second floor. A firefighter, a police officer and two others were taken to the hospital but are expected to survive. Two cats were killed, though. Investigators say the fire was an accident.
