An early childhood education campaign has launched in Virginia. Advocates say they hope the campaign will ensure the state of Virginia continues to fund early childhood education. The "Gotta Have Childcare" campaign begins today. Temporary funding of the state's early childhood education is set to end in the coming months which could leave tens of thousands of families at risk of losing care. More than ten-thousand children were on waiting lists for childcare in the state of Virginia last year.
A new study links lead exposure to mental health problems in Virginians. The study done by Duke and Florida State Universities analyzed the effect of lead in gasoline, which began in 1923 for car engine maintenance, but was later banned in 1996. The study connected more than 150-million cases of mental illnesses over the last 75 years with childhood exposure to leaded gas.
