Closing arguments are likely to begin today or tomorrow in the trial of a former Fairfax County cop charged with involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors Monday rested their case against Wesley Shifflett, who's accused of gunning down 37-year-old Timothy Johnson as he tried to flee a foot pursuit last year following a shoplifting incident at Tysons Corner Center. They maintain the shooting was excessive, but Shifflett's attorneys say the charges he's facing point to a reckless disregard for human life, something that bodycam video shows was not the case.

The VDH and Alexandria Health Department are holding a webinar at 6:30 this evening for families of students at Naomi Brooks Elementary. The school has been closed since Friday after lead particles were found in offices and a kindergarten classroom. Administrators say those particles were left behind when a contractor replacing windows failed to follow proper mitigation requirements. Health officials are encouraging Brooks' students and families to have their blood tested for lead.
