While the Affordable Care Act brought the number of uninsured Americans down to record lows, it has not improved our access to healthcare. A new report from the Commonwealth Fund shows a majority of underinsured people are enrolled in their employer's plans - at 66 percent. Roughly 57 percent, again the majority of Americans, say cost prompted them to forgo needed care and 44 percent have medical debt. One out of three people with chronic conditions say they can't afford to fill needed prescriptions.
A northern Virginia animal shelter is offering a sweet reward to anyone who adopts a cat over the next few days. Loudoun County Animal Services is offering a free caramel apple or pumpkin pie to those who adopt a cat between now and Tuesday. The group is also waiving adoption fees for cats that are more than a year old. A list of the cats and other animals up for adoption can be found on the LCAS website.
