A man is facing a murder charge after allegedly hitting a woman with a vehicle in Salem. Police were called to a parking lot in the 18-hundred block of West Main Street on Saturday night. Thirty-two-year-old Ashley Gearheart was severely injured after being struck by a vehicle and later died from those injuries. Police arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Williams at the scene and charged him with second-degree murder. Investigators say Williams and Gearheart had been in a relationship before her death.
Investigators blame a downed power line for a brush fire in Chesapeake yesterday. Firefighters were called to the 28-hundred block of Flag Road in the Deep Creek area just after 2:30 p.m. Crews were able to contain the fire before it could damage any structures or move deeper into the woods. No injuries were reported.
