A Virginia State Police officer has been placed on leave after being arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Thirty-year-old Darren Roberts was arrested on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and domestic violence earlier this week. Roberts was released from custody on Wednesday after posting bail. State police officials say Roberts currently works at the Wytheville [[WITH-ville]] Division office in Pulaski County.
The remains of a Virginia soldier who died after being held as a prisoner of war in Korea will soon be coming home for burial. The Defense POW-MIA Accounting Agency announced yesterday that it recently identified the remains of Army Private First Class Robert J. Wright, Junior. Wright was reported missing in action in 1950, and two POWs later reported that Wright died at a prisoner-of-war camp in 1951. The remains of Wright and other POWs were returned to the U.S. in 1954 and buried in Hawaii. The DPAA says Wright will be returned to his home in Bland County for burial.
