A high school in Fairfax has been rededicated honoring a Virginia native known as the father of African American history. Woodson High School decided to rededicate the name after Carter G. Woodson, author and historian known for writing some of the first journals documenting Black history. The school board says the name rededication offers a chance to acknowledge history and move forward in a positive light.
Roanoke is celebrating Dr Pepper Day. The event will take place at Market Square in Downtown Roanoke today. October 24th was chosen as the day to celebrate after Dr Pepper's 1927 marketing campaign. Virginia's first Dr Pepper bottling plant opened in Roanoke in 1936. And people in Roanoke consume more of the soda drink per capita than in any other place in the country.
