A search is underway to find the driver of a deadly hit-and-run in Henrico County. A woman and child were walking on Nine Mile Road in Highland Springs two weeks ago when they were hit by a car. The woman died four days later. Police are looking for a silver Nissan, either a Sentra made between 2012 and '14 or an Altima made between 2009 or 2018. It could have significant damage to the front passenger side.
A youth curfew in part of the commonwealth did not get the support police officer expected. The 2023 shooting deaths of three minors in Lynchburg led to the implementation of a city-wide youth curfew, for minors between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The curfew, enacted in May of last year, has shown a decrease in juvenile crimes, with property and violent crimes dropping by 5% between May 2022 and May 2024. Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema recommended extending the curfew through January 1st, 2025. However, some city council members voted against extending the curfew, questioning its continued efficacy as crime rates declined over time.
