The University of Virginia says it has developed a new imaging technique to detect heart health. UVA scientists say they've created a non-invasive way to analyze risks of unseen fat surrounding the heart. The university says researchers used magnetic resonance imaging to analyze the fat or adipose tissue around the heart. They say early testing of the technique showed positive signs the approach could provide potential improvements to care for patients.
A former Virginia Tech Professor has been sentenced to prison for the possession of child pornography. The Department of Justice Attorney's Office of the Western District of Virginia says 51-year-old Michael Horning of Christiansburg pled guilty to the charges in September of 2024. Horning has been sentenced to five years in prison. He is a former professor of communications at Virginia Tech.
