Thousands of Appalachian customers are still without power as a winter storm hit much of Virginia. More than 41-thousand customers were in the dark as of this morning. The areas with the most amount of damage include Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, Franklin and Roanoke counties in Virginia. Officials expect to have power restored for several areas beginning today and extending throughout the rest of the week.
Despite less than stellar weather and road conditions, voters in eastern Loudoun County are hitting the polls today for a pair of special elections. The races for state Senate District 32 and for House District 26 will determine which party holds the balance of power in each chamber. If the GOP is able to pick up the state House seat, the House would be split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans heading into the new legislative session.
Polls are open until 7:00.
