The new mayor of Hampton has taken his oath of office. Jimmy Gray was sworn in Wednesday in front of family, supporters, and city employees at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. Gray was elected this past November with more than 70-percent of the vote. He succeeded Mayor Donnie Tuck after running two terms. Gray has previously served as the city's vice mayor, served on the city council, and has also served as deputy city manager and fire chief.
One of the biggest pork producers in Virginia and the world, Smithfield Foods, has filed for its initial public offering. The company plans to offer listings of its shares. The company is currently owned by Hong Kong-based WH Group Ltd. It was acquired in 2013 in a four-point-seven-billion dollar deal.
The company's corporate headquarters is still located on Commerce Street where it was originally founded in 1936.
