The nationwide egg shortage is affecting food pantries in Virginia. House of Mercy food pantry in Manassas says they can't help as many families as they previously did due to the egg shortage. The coordinator for House of Mercy tells News4 some shelves are empty in their fridge where the used to keep eggs. The ongoing bird flu outbreak has caused nearly 150 million hens to be killed in the U.S. causing the price of eggs to skyrocket and supply dwindle.
The Virginia Museum of History and Culture has given grants to several state based historical societies, schools, and community centers. The museum granted more than 500-thousand dollars to eleven Virginia-based organizations. Several state-recognized native tribes will also receive funds. The grants are the largest sum ever granted through the Commonwealth History Fund.
