A new Virginia bill is aiming to have no hungry college students in the state. Governor Youngkin has signed two bills that would create a food pantry grant program to help give college students free food. The bill allocates 500-thousand dollars for the program and will allow college students to eat for free at campuses that partner with local food pantries. Students will also not be required to prove they're food insecure.A progress report on the new initiative will be given by next summer to see how the program does.
Prices for a Virginia Lottery ticket are going up. The price for a single-play Mega Millions ticket will go up from two-dollars to $5 dollars next week. Other changes announced also include bigger prizes, a larger starting jackpot, and changes to winning odds. The increase marks the second price adjustment for lottery tickets in Virginia since 2017. And the starting jackpot will reset to 50-million instead of 20 million after a win. The Virginia Lottery says all profits benefit K through 12 education in the state.
